Zoo Receives Grant!

This winter, the Friends of Capron Park Zoo received a $7,500 grant from Bristol County Savings Charitable Trust.  The money from this grant will be used to purchase aerators and fountains for the pond.

The addition of aerators and fountains will not only beautify the pond area, but it will also help to create and maintain a healthy habitat for native aquatic species, as well as migratory and non-migratory birds.

A big thanks to all the visitors who came out to support the Zoo during our annual Halloween event.

Another thanks to all the staff and volunteers that make this event possible.

Thanks yet again to the SCA for providing fighters for our 'knight fights'...in the pouring rain and to Swords, Songs and Moor for providing our pirate adventure!

Finally...thank you to Team Bank of America for providing volunteers for both evenings and for pumkin carving.

Capron Park Zoo Announces Promotional Partnership!

In August of 2007, Capron Park Zoo entered into a fund-raising partnership with local McDonald's owner Lou Provenzano.  This new and exciting partnership will bring McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Martin Brower, the Sun Chronicle and the zoo together to help raise funds to bring in our new male WHITE LION.

White Lions are the result of a very rare genetic anomaly   known as leucism.  In African oral traditions, white lions were said to be lions from the stars that embody the spiritual good of all beings.  In fact, the name of the park in which the white color form was first seen, Timbavati Reserve, can be loosely translated to  ‘place where the star lions came down from the heavens’.  Although still honored by the native peoples of South Africa, the white color morph is for all intents and purposes, extinct in the wild.  Maintained by a few institutions around the world, the total number of white lions is around 350 individuals.

Capron Park Zoo is preparing to receive one of these beautiful and rare lions.  With the help of the funds raised through McDonald’s, a young male will be brought to the zoo from a breeding facility in South Africa, assisted by Zoological Animal Reproduction Center owner Kevin Chambers.  In the future, the Zoo hopes to breed the male to the females currently housed at the zoo.  Both females carry the gene for the white color form.

You can help bring the white lion to YOUR zoo by purchasing a white lion picture in our gift shop.  These 5 X 7 pictures are $3.00 each, and all proceeds go directly towards the fund-raising efforts.  Visit the new McCafe on Washington St., Attleboro or the Zoo Gift Shop today!
