Education Ed-ventures at the Zoo
The Education Department at the Capron Park Zoo has been in existence since 1991. Since that time it has evolved to become an important part of environmental education in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Its role in conservation education encompasses many different facets and includes:
Public Programming
Special events are held at the zoo throughout the year. These events feature fun, educational activities for all ages of children, adults and families. Taking place both in the park itself and behind the scenes, there's sure to be some zoo adventure to bring you a smile with the following:
- School vacation week programs for children age 6 to 12
- Summer programs for children age 6 to 15
- Educational programs for adults
- Special activity packets for scout groups - designed to help scouts meet requirements for animal-related badges
- Birthday Party programs
School Programs and Services
We have the following standard or customizable curricula available:
- On-site and Outreach programs for all ages*
- After school enrichment outreach programs for preschool to 5th grade
- Field Trip Actvity Packets for school groups that schedule self-guided trips to the zoo.
- Special services for teachers - including Teacher Training workshops, help with curriculum development, specially designed programs to complement classroom subjects, and hands-on teaching kits (Bats, Owls, Birds)
* When developing our on-site and outreach programs, we pay close attention to the Massachusetts State Science Curriculum Frameworks, and incorporate standards from each strand whenever possible
