February

"The Mating Game" - Homeschool Program
It's Valentine's Day and you can come learn about how zoos and aquariums 'stack the deck' for animal romance! This funny and informative program will look at breeding programs, mating habits and zoos.

February Vacation Week Programs -- Activities for ages 6-11
Explore the far-off places of the globe as we take you on a virtual adventure with new and exciting things to learn everyday! Sign up for one or two days, or come and enjoy all three!
February 21-23 - 9:00am-3:00pm
Ages: 6-11
Cost: Members: $25/day -- Non-Members: $30/day

Pre-registration is required for these activities

  • Feb. 21 (Wednesday) - We'll follow the steps of Dr Livingstone and learn about 'The Dark Continent' on our African Safari.
  • Feb. 22 (Thursday) - Children will discover the wonders of Australia and Asia in Austral-Asian Adventure by mapping out the journeys of Captain Cook and Marco Polo.
  • Feb. 23 (Friday) - Participants will marvel at the wonders of North and South America as they trace the route of Lewis and Clark and Alexander von Humboldt in Amazing Americas.

"Math at the Zoo" - Homeschool Program
Nothing could get done around the zoo without math - no animal diets could be made, medicines given or exhibits built without it! In this hands-on program, students will have the chance to apply mathematics to zoo operations, design an exhibit and figure out how much medicine to give an animal patient.

Hourly "Sneak Peak" Guided Tours
Ever wonder what happens behind-the-scenes at a zoo? Come and find out this weekend! Tours will run on the hour from 11am to 2pm on a first come, first serve basis on both Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25, so plan on stopping by and get a peak at how a zoo operates.

"Feline Fanatics" - Homeschool Program
In many areas, feline species are endangered or threatened. Come and learn about a little about cat anatomy and abilities, why so many cats species are facing tough odds and how zoos, aquariums and YOU can help!

"Earth's Ecology" - Homeschool Program
Many of us hear the term ecology a lot, but how many people really understand what it means? This new program will help children to understand what ecology is and how scientists use it to discover the origins of species, how they survive, and why they are important.

April Vacation Week Programs -- Activities for ages 6-11
Spring week is a great time to learn about the world around us, both past and present. These full day programs are designed to be fun and exciting for a variety of ages. There are new and exciting things to learn everyday, so sign up for one or two days, or come and enjoy all five!
April 16-20 - 9:00am-3:00pm
Ages: 6-11
Cost: Members: $25/day, $125/week OR Non-members: $30/day, $150/week

Pre-registration is required for these activities

  • Apr. 16 (Monday) - As the weather (finally!) starts to warm up, more and more of our feathered friends will be returning to the north. In Bird Brain, children will learn about birds, their habits and some of the amazing journeys they make.
  • Apr. 17 (Tuesday) - In Art and the Animals children will learn about different art techniques, get to learn a bit about animal bodies and much more. Come on over and get down, dirty and creative!
  • Apr. 18 (Wednesday) - Have a wonderful time learning about the prehistoric world in Dino-Myte! Dinosaurs and fossils are the name of the game in this fun and exciting program.
  • Apr. 19 (Thursday) - It's spring, which means the water is warming up and it's almost Turtle Time! Learn about watery wonders, poke around in the pond and participate in a group turtle dissection in this new program!
  • Apr. 20 (Friday) - What are we going to do this day? Who knows? We could be shoving poop, making animal diets or playing games. In the Wild Card program, you'll have to wait and see what's in our bag or surprises!


May

"Migration Madness" - Homeschool Program
May 12 in International Migratory Bird Day, so this program focuses on birds. Children will look at birds and learn why they migrate, how they survive such long journeys, and even get the opportunity to 'be' a bird on migration.

Ages: 6 & up
