All our homeschool classes use a multi-discipline, hands-on appraoch to learning that make every class exciting and fun! Activities are age appropriate and relevant to the topic. Homeschoolers will enjoy a fun 'ed-venture' at the zoo everytime!
Winter/Spring 2008 Homeschool Calendar
All homeschool Ed-ventures run from 10 AM to 12 PM
PLEASE NOTE: All Homeschool Ed-zoo-cation program registrations MUST be received no later than zoo closing on the Friday prior to the scheduled class date! Registrations that arrive after this time will NOT be processed!
February 28: Who Let the Frogs Out? - for 6-8 year olds
2008 has been designated the International Year of the Frog, and institutions all over the world are coming together to spread the word about amphibians. In honor of Leap Day, we are offering this program to teach children about these amazing amphibian. Hop on down to discover what makes frogs so facinating, fun and sometimes freakish.
March 12: Creepy, Crawly Critters - for 6-8 year olds
Do bugs bug you? Do spiders scare you? This program will help chidlren overcome these fears by exploring how important and interesting invertebrates can be.
March 25: Diets and Nutrition - for 9-11 year olds
Come and be a 'cook' for the animals in the zoo in this program. Children will step behind-the-scenes and assist our Commissary Keeper in making diets for all the animals in the zoo.
April 9: Behavior and Enrichment - for 9-11 year olds
In captivity, keepers try to provide animals with toys that allow them to act as wild as possible. Learn about how we create enriching experiences for animals, and even have the opportunity to make some toys for the zoo!
May 7: The Genetics of Conservation - for 12-13 year olds
Zoo use the modern science of genetics to monitor captive breeding and so much more. This program will focus on the idea of how an understanding of basic genetics can help zoos and aquariums help species survive in an increasingly hostile world.
All homeschool ed-zoo-cation programs are designed to be fun, challenging and hands-on. Classes are approximately two hours long and cost $10/child. A minimum of 4 children is needed to run a class. One adult per FAMILY GROUP is welcome to participate for an additional cost of $5/program.
Children must be pre-registered for all ed-zoo-cation programs!
To pre-register for a program, please download the Homeschool Registration Form* and mail it to the address below, or contact the Capron Park Zoo Education Department by calling 508-222-6202 or email: cpzstoehrer@yahoo.com.
Payment in full is due at the time of registration. Upon receipt of payment and registration, you will receive a confirmation letter in the mail. Please do not assume your child is registered until you receive your confirmation letter.
Payment for all programs is NON-REFUNDABLE. In the unforeseen event that Capron Park Zoo must cancel an ed-zoo-cation programs, registrants will have the choice of transferring payment to another program OR receiving a refund. Refunds require a written letter and social security number, and can take up to 8 weeks to process. No refunds will be issued for 'no-shows'.
